Balloon Flights inside vortex during winter 1999/2000

    Ozone evolution since early winter

  • ozone maximum descending inside vortex

    NO2 evolution since early winter

  • NO2 recovery starting above 22 km

    OClO evolution since early winter

  • no OClO in November

  • November, no NO2 ; the vortex is not activated: No OClO.
  • January the atmosphere is denoxified and the vortex is activated: high amounts of OClO are observed from 15 to 24 km.
  • Early February, recovery of NO2 at the top of the profile and the vortex is activated: high level of OClO observed but only below 21 km where the atmosphere is denoxified.
  • Early March the vortex is still activated: high amount of OClO are observed.
  • Early April, recovery of NO2; OClO observed below 17 km only.
