Comparison with previous years Inside Vortex
Cumulative photochemical reduction of total column ozone inside vortex estimated from a study combining ground-based SAOZ UV-Visible spectrometers measurements and atmospheric model results (red hatched area) and from REPROBUS model only (blue solid line). During the last seven winters the losses have varied between 5 and 32%. The loss is larger during winter with low temperatures enabling PSC formation

Comparison with previous years Outside Vortex
Cumulative photochemical reduction of total column ozone outside vortex estimated from a study combining ground-based SAOZ UV-Visible spectrometers measurements and atmospheric model results (red hatched area) and from REPROBUS model only (blue solid line). During the last seven winters the losses have varied around 10%. The timing of the loss is different from inside vortex and it can start early in the winter suggesting a local destruction and not a leakage of the vortex.
